Lake St Clair – Glennies Breakneck Ridge TRACK HAZARD WARNING. Please be aware that there was a major slippage in an unimproved area on the north track two weeks ago (early August).
This is at approx 2.5km from entrance point and before the second switchback. Approx 100 cubic metres of soil has slipped down the hill and the track is highly unstable. Do not attempt the north track after rain for 7-10 days. If you plan to use the north track get out of your vehicle and inspect the stability before you drive over it – you may lose your car and the passengers as it is highly unstable. The area is after you go through the forest canopy but before you reack the second switchback. The men of the Newcastle HG club have kindly made an attempt at remedial action but fixing this issue will be a significant undertaking.
